Message from the 20th State Representative of Mississippi

I humbly bring you greetings on behalf of our State Organization of Mississippi, which represents over 1,000 men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. I would like to thank the Mississippi brotherhood for its confidence in electing me as its 20th State Representative.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was established on November 17, 1911 at Howard University in Washington D.C. Our founders Ernest E. Just, Edgar A. Love, Oscar J. Cooper, and Frank Coleman established a fraternal blueprint that has persevered for over a century, welcomed over 250,000 brothers within its membership, and benefitted the world through its service to mankind. As men of Omega, we serve God, as well as our families, fraternity, fellow brothers, and community.

Walking in the footsteps of our distinguished founders, the State of Mississippi Organization is paving new journeys in the service of communities within our state. With 21 graduate chapters and 9 undergraduate chapters, we seek to build relationships through our target programs with those in the communities we serve. Such programs include scholarships to high school and college students; assault on illiteracy; fatherhood and mentorship; domestic violence prevention; voter registration; S.T.E.M. workshops; and a variety of service projects, such as school supply drives, highway cleanups, blood drives, and Habitat for Humanity.

Our state organization’s mission is to be a pillar of excellence by promoting leadership, integrity, and social responsibility, while preserving the rich traditions and values of our Fraternity. We shall accomplish our mission through nurturing a cooperative spirit, collaborative initiative, and communal loyalty amongst our brotherhood.

Proverbs 29:18 of the Holy Bible states, “Where there is no vision, the people perish…” Our state organization’s vision is “Friendship First: Recognize, Organize, Prioritize, and Enterprise”. To bring this vision into fruition, we will personify our Fraternity’s motto of “Friendship is Essential to the Soul”, through our amicable interactions between brothers and through our initiation of noble projects we engage. Also, we will recognize the challenges of our communities, organize to solve them, prioritize the challenges by importance, and collaborate with others to have a greater impact on our communities.

Going forward, we shall continue to build a larger and stronger brotherhood, foster more nurturing communities, and expand our network of those who share our vision of building a better tomorrow.
